Abstract
The Norwegian Cultural Barometer is a series of publications based on Statistics Norway's survey on the use of cultural activities. Results from the survey are presented in the Norwegian cultural barometer report series. The purpose of the survey is to map out the populations use of different cultural events, what cultural offerings different groups of the population attend, as well as measuring individuals own participation in different cultural activities. This includes cinema visits, consumption of literature and library visits, theater and preforming arts, museum visits, concerts and festivals, sport events and religious meetings.
The survey was first conducted in 1991, together with the media use survey, and has since been followed up with minor changes until 2020. From 2021 the survey on use of cultural activities is an independent survey. For the survey in 2021, the questionnaire was revised and restructured. Until 2021, the survey population was a representative sample of the Norwegian population aged 9-79. From and including the 2021 survey, there is no upper age limit, and therefore the population is a representative of the Norwegian population aged 9 or older. The participants in the survey were offered both a telephone interview, and to answer in a web form.
