Abstract

Although science education is declared important by the Norwegian government, not much research has been conducted on teaching and learning science in secondary school or on science teachers' competence development. The ReleKvant competence project has had three related goals. First, to develop research-based, digital learning resources in relativity theory and quantum physics for high school. Second, to study physics students' concepts, learning and motivation. Third, to create and explore a learning community of practice where physics teachers, associate professor educators, researchers and teacher education students collaborate on the development of varied and engaging teaching in physics. The methodological framework for the project is Design-based research (DBR), which involves several cycles of development of learning resources in collaboration with teachers and associate professor students, data collection in classrooms, and further development of the resources based on the trial. The ReleKvant resources in quantum physics became widely available through the Norwegian Science Center's platform viten.no in October 2016 after four rounds of testing; the resources in general relativity were published in the autumn of 2017.
