Study title

After the reunification of Germany the Federal Statistical Office´s aim was to provide statistical base material with information about the economic, social and community development in the former GDR. For this reason the Federal Statistical Office first collected the inventory of the former GDR’s statistics, and then archived, processed and documented them. In addition, selected statistical material and variables has been processed – if possible – in a way, that they are comparable to the federal statistics of the old Federal Republic of Germany. The results of this work are published in the publication of the Special Issue “Sonderreihe mit Beiträgen für das Gebiet der ehemaligen DDR” (Special issue with contributions on the territory of the former GDR). The Issue No. 18 (´Transport Statistical Tables 1950-1989´) contains selected data tables on passenger transport and freight transport of the transportation sectors railway, road, inland waterways, maritime, air traffic, communications and pipelines. Many statistical information can be presented for the period from 1950 to 1989. With the aim to make the information of the former GDR comparable with the official FRG-Statistics, recalculations and new groupings has to be made. The following issue no. 28 („Verkehrsstatistische Übersichten 1947 bis 1989. Teil II“ = Transport Statistical Tables 1947 to 1989. Part II) continues and widen the statistical overviews on transport with long statistical series. In this issue a recalculation of the statistical information is not made.
