Abstract
Political knowledge and opinion on electoral rights for citizens of the European Union.Topics: political knowledge regarding electoral rights for citizens of the EU: a citizen of the EU living in the country has the right to vote or to stand as a candidate in municipal elections, in regional elections (only in : AT, BE, CZ, DK, DE, ES, FR, IT, NL, PL, SK, SE, UK), in elections to the national Parliament and in European Parliament elections; attitude towards electoral rights for EU-citizen living in another EU country than their country of origin: justified loss of the right to participate in national elections in the country of which he/she is a national, right to vote in national elections in the country of residence, right to vote and to stand as a candidate in regional elections in the country of residence; if residing in other EU country than the country of origin: candidate preference for the European elections (candidates of the country of residence or candidates of the own country of origin); a list of candidates in the European elections can attract more votes if it includes candidates who are nationals of other EU countries; the presence of candidates who are nationals of other EU countries can increase the general turnout in local elections; expected higher turnout in future European elections by selected measures (more information on the European Parliament elections, more information on the impact of the European Union on daily life, more information to the programs and objectives of candidates and parties in the European Parliament, political parties displayed in all campaigns materials to which European political party they are affiliated, the elections were held on a same day across the EU, European political parties proposed a candidate for the function of President of the European Commission).
