Abstract

It was in 1983 initiated a pilot project that was to test the possibility of building up a Norwegian General Social Survey, an omnibus survey for research purposes, where scientists can buy into with questions. With regard to coordination and utilization of technical and financial resources, NAVF's coordination committee for surveys was appointed in January 1983. The committee would be responsible for implementation of surveys in which different researchers could search space in a joint program. The survey in 1986 was conducted by Statistics Norway as a supplementary survey to the Labour Force Survey 2 quarter of 1986. Coordination Committee's purpose was to carry on the work effort as the first survey in 1984 represented. To avoid major theme variations between applications from different researchers, it was set up a framework for current issues. Common theme of the survey in 1986, unemployment and employment. In addition to data from the survey, it was an important goal to utilize data that were collected through the Labour Force Survey 1985 and the annual summary surveys Work 1984 Work 1985, because the sample was drawn from samples of these investigations. Altogether, this gives ample opportunity to analyze issues related to employment and unemployment over the period covered. For the survey was drawn from two samples, one of which consists of people with unemployment experience, it was all the people in 1985 is recorded in the LFS as workers. In total, this sample 628 people. The second sample is a random sample from the LFS Q1 1986, people who when interviewed 3 or 4 time. Overall, this amounted to 1527 people. 86 people joined in both groups, so that the total was 2069.
