It was in 1983 initiated a pilot project that was to test the possibility of building up a Norwegian General Social Survey, an omnibus survey for research purposes, where scientists can buy into with questions. With regard to coordination and utilization of technical and financial resources, NAVF's coordination committee for surveys was appointed in January 1983. The committee would be responsible for implementation of surveys in which different researchers could search space in a joint program.
