Abstract

The data represent technical, economic, social and institutional innovations, thus innovations in the widest sense. For the research on the part of the IAB previously publicized information inrelevant collective works, monographs, essays in technical journals anddaily newspapers were used.For this primarily those innovations were recorded that were consideredparticularly significant regarding the task of the IAB.Wherever possible the relevant information was recorded in its original text.Here the basic idea was on the one handto record the source information as completely as possible andon the other hand to undertake a certain structuringin order to make systematic evaluation possible.The events recorded in the database are taken fromrelevant collections, monographs, special compositions as well astechnical journals and daily newspapers.Altogether the database is based on 1307 different sources.The database contains information for the timefrom before the birth of Christ to 1991.The total extent consists of 14600 events.Almost 2% of these refer to the time before the birth of Christ.From the year zero to 1749 1200 innovations are stored in the database.There are 13115 innovations for the time interval from 1750 to 1991.The events are not evenly distributed over the years.Regarding the time interval from 1750 to 19911970 is the year with of the highest event frequency (147 events),while there were only two events in 1757.On average from 1750 to 1991 54 events per year were mentioned (Median = 48).
