Smoking Attitudes in 11-18 Year-Olds, 1999-2005 provides data on adolescents' views of smoking initiation and smoking behaviour in a sample of young people surveyed from age 11/12 years through to 17/18 years of age. The data are part of an existing large cohort study of adolescents and smoking initiation, Leeds Adolescent Smoking Initiation Cohort Study (LASIC).
The sample of adolescents were surveyed a total of 9 times over 6 years. In the first 8 rounds data were collected in approximately 20 schools in the Leeds area. For the first 7 rounds, data were collected approximately every four months over a two year period. Round 8 were collected approximately two years after round 7. Round 9 was collected approximately two years later again. Round 9 is a much smaller sample because it was collected from a group who had mostly left school. This group had provided names and addresses at time 8 specifying that they would be prepared to be re-contacted at a later date.
Main Topics:
In addition to self-reported smoking the survey contains measures derived from the Theory of Planned Behaviour including intentions, attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control (see publication references).
