This data set is taken from Institute for social research's (ISF) contribution to "Evaluation of the Church election 2011". Stiftelsen Kirkeforskning (KIFO) is responsible for the report, and the Institute for social research is the provider of an interim report, "Voters: Information, knowledge, turnout and attitudes." It is based on the church election held in 2011. The purpose of this study is to get a picture of the Norwegian church members views of church, members motives for participating or not participating in the church election and their experience with the election campaign.
Together with the evaluation of the church election in 2011 were also submitted a final report summarizing an evaluation of the democratic reform. This is based on both church elections: Ulla Schmidt, "Evaluation of the the democratic reform of the Norwegian Church. Final Report."
The survey from 2009 consisted of two parts, and it was based on both telephone interviews and a postal survey. Experience from 2009 was that the telephone interviews gave a much better data than expected, and in 2011 the postal survey therefore was omitted, and thus rely solely on telephone interviews. The interviews were done in the first week after the election in 2011, and the total survey in 2011 consisted of 1,500 fully completed interviews.
The survey is based on a representative sample of the adult Norwegian population. In contrast to the corresponding survey from the 2009 elections, this time both church members and nonmembers are included. Specifically, the survey covers members of the Norwegian Church who was entitled to vote at church elections in 2011. That is, all members born before 1997 (15 years or older). Non-members were included in the survey to determine attitudes to the coordination of local elections and church elections in the population as a whole.
