Abstract

Judgement on parties and politicians shortly before the election to the House of Representatives in Berlin. Election preferences. Topics: Eligibility to vote in the eastern or western part of Berlin; most important political problems in Berlin; intent to participate in the election in the impending election to the House of Representatives and preference for absentee ballot or election in the polling station; party preference; certainty of one´s voting decision; behavior at the polls in the last House of Representatives election; coalition preference; sympathy scale for the parties at Federal as well as state level; satisfaction with the parties in the Berlin Senate as well as in opposition; sympathy scale for the top candidates Diepgen and Stahmer as well as for Kohl and Scharping; preferred mayor; comparison of the two election candidates for the office of mayor regarding their credibility, energy, sympathy, their sense of responsibility and their expertise; judgement on achieving of equivalence or remaining differences between East and West Berlin; judgement on the current economic situation of the city as well as the individual economic situation; expected economic development in Berlin; judgement on the issue ability of the parties in economic questions, traffic policy and domestic policy; assessment of the credibility of the SED re-named PDS; expected winner in the House of Representatives election; assumption about probable government composition after the election; judgement on different coalition compositions after the election; expected overcoming the 5%-hurdle by the FDP; assessment of one´s own job security; union membership; religiousness; close persons whose job is endangered or are unemployed; party inclination and party identification.
