Sampling procedure
An attempt was made to interview again all respondents of the survey of
1974 (ZA Study No. 0757, multi-stage stratified random sample). From
the representative part of this first survey (2307 respondents) it was
possible to complete 912 interviews in the second wave, for which
identity with the respondents of the first wave was certain beyond
doubt. For the special sample (461 respondents without
interviewer-interviews) it was possible to complete 180 interviews in
the follow-up survey. This provides for the entire sample of 2768
respondents in the first wave a sum of 1092 interviews achieved in the
second wave. (For explanation of the special sample see ´special
features´) The age of the respondents was 22 years and older.
