The microcensus has been carried out since the 1970s and has been repeatedly adapted to changing circumstances over time. The last major reform took place in 2014.

Abstract

This special survey is on the field housing and consists of the standard questions from the extended housing survey and the focal point housing questions. There are questions on the usage of fuel, the existence of motor vehicles as well as information on the existence of parking spaces in garages or a car park. Moreover, interviewees are asked about the location of their apartment and the existence of an elevator in their house. It is also evaluated whether rented apartments are sublet freehold flats. The Mikrozensus special program form September 1993 was already on the topic housing questions. Due to the high demand for apartments and the need for information on it, it was important to repeat the question program after a short time to have up-to-date information on house hunters, and changes of residence which sheds light on the housing market. The first part of the survey contains questions on housing quality and satisfaction which are important since the demand for apartments which offer more than the classic equipment features especially concerning housing quality and infrastructure is increasing. The objective and subjective evaluation of the residential area was also part of the question block. The second part of the survey contains questions on the duration of the rent (as well as the date and the conditions at the time the interviewee moved in), fixed-term tenancy agreements and detailed characteristics of the house hunt. The last part consists of questions on previous changes of residence within the last 5 years.
