Abstract

Analysis of reporting in selected media before the national parliament elections in the Federal Republic. Topics: Coded recording of articles in print media as well as in electronic media according to their political topics (political agenda) and central aspects; evaluation of political actors and their presence with personal statements; degree of attention by the media and journalist style; occasion of reporting; problem intensity and type of problem; conflict party and conflict intensity; relevance to German unification and the election campaign; regional relevance; originator of evaluation; evaluation of action; attribution of ability, strength of achievement, activity, characteristics and social traits; tendency and direction of the evaluation; election and victory chances of the parties and candidates presented.

Sample of articles in the daily newspapers Welt, FAZ, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Rundschau, Tageszeitung, Bild-Zeitung, Berliner Zeitung, Leipziger Volkszeitung and Ostsee-Zeitung every third weekday. Each edition of Der Spiegel, Die Zeit. Representative for regional press every third weekday (1 day after daily newspapers): BPA basis service. Television reporting: sample of news broadcasts on every third day: Tagesschau, Tagesthemen, heute, heute-journal, SAT 1-Blick, SAT 1-Blick-Spaetausgabe, RTL plus aktuell, RTL plus aktuell-Spaetausgabe, ak am Abend, ak 2. Sample of one broadcast each from the broadcasts: Report, Studio 1, Spiegel-TV Reportage, Stern-TV, Prisma and Controvers. Analysis unit for the trend media were in general the first three pages, with television the complete broadcast.
