Abstract

Since the early 1970s the European Commission´s Standard & Special Eurobarometer are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries. Principal investigators are the Directorate-General Communication and on occasion other departments of the European Commission or the European Parliament. Over time, candidate and accession countries were included in the Standard Eurobarometer Series. Selected questions or modules may not have been surveyed in each sample. Please consult the basic questionnaire for more information on country filter instructions or other questionnaire routing filters. In this study the following modules are included: 1. National and European identity, 2. Public health: electromagnetic fields.Topics: 1. National and European identity: most important characteristics of a national identity and a European identity; personal importance of a European identity; national provenance of the respondent and his family; number of grandparents who were born in the country; types of personal connections with other countries; mother tongue; knowledge of other languages; intent to move to another country and preferred country (mobility); attachment to other countries; main reasons for attachment to other countries; level of attachment to the own city/ to the own region (split A), to the city/ to the region where the respondent lives (split B), to the country, and to the European Union; feeling of belonging to one of the majority groups or to one of the minority groups in the country, and assumed generally perception of people in the country; assumed reasons for this perception. 2. Public health / electromagnetic fields: extent of the effect on health through: quality of the air outdoors and indoors, quality of drinking water and of the water in lakes and rivers, noise, waste management, quality of food, chemicals, exposure to sun, housing conditions, mobile phone handsets, mobile phone masts, electrical equipment in the household,...
