Abstract
The dataset is from the 'Survey on Radio Listening and Television Viewing - September 1987', conducted by Statistics Norway (SSB) on behalf of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). The June 1987 survey was part of SSB's listener and viewer surveys for NRK. From 1967 to 1977, SSB conducted annual general radio and television surveys for NRK. Between 1978 and 1985, several special surveys were conducted, with general surveys only carried out in 1980 and 1983. Since 1985, a new arrangement with three general surveys per year has been in place. This change was due to the new media situation in the 1980s, with the increasing availability of multiple channels in both radio and television.
The main objectives of the new survey arrangement were to collect data on:
- Changes in listening and viewing patterns over time
- Variations in listening and viewing patterns in different seasons
- Use and choice of various channels and programs in radio and television
- How people listen to the radio and watch television
- Access to radio and television sets and equipment used with these devices
In addition, NRK wanted to ask questions about people's opinions on various aspects of NRK's programming and specific individual programs or types of programs. The aim was to conduct surveys that could provide a basis for NRK's work in creating a program offering that listeners and viewers would benefit from, and that could help illuminate the role of radio and television in people's lives. The survey also includes questions about respondents' interest in various types of information and their satisfaction with the mass media's coverage of different topics.
Three general surveys were conducted in 1987, in February, June, and September/October. This file contains data from the September survey.
