Abstract

This dataset contains the data as used in the research into the interdisciplinary minor called ‘Healthcare communication, management and organization’. A detailed description of the minor is given in the description file in this dataset. In this part of the research project we focused on the barriers and opportunities for developing and implementation of interdisciplinary learning in practice.
Data were collected by conducting four semi-structured focus group interviews with participants of the minor which were studying communication and information sciences at Radboud University Nijmegen (the Netherlands) and with participants of the minor which were studying Medicine at Radboudumc Nijmegen (the Netherlands). A total of seven medicine students, and six communication- and information sciences students participated during the focus group interviews.
Focus group interviews were held before the start of the course (February 2020), and at the end of the course, in March 2020.
Questions were pre-arranged, as provided in the dataset.

The data were transcribed verbatim and transcripts were analyzed using the constant comparative analysis technique. Coding followed a three-part process: Open coding by one of the researchers, used to develop an initial template of codes; Independently open coding by two researchers, followed by identifying focal themes; Identifying focal themes, followed by selective and systematic coding by one researcher using the modified code book. Analysis processing was supported by Atlas.ti v8.4.20 software.
