Abstract
Attitude to school, education expectations and leisure interests of High School students in Illinois as well as their parents. Sociometric data on friends and family of schoolchildren and teachers.
Topics: the data set contains two surveys of schoolchildren and one survey of parents. The schoolchildren were asked among other things: school situation; school activities; judgement on the school,
classmates and teachers; leisure activities; social contacts; friendships; preferred types of music and performers; fashion style in the reference group; consumption of semi-luxury foods, tobacco and
alcohol; social origins; family situation; religiousness; influence of parents on personal decisions; concepts of occupation; mobility readiness; interest in studies and preferred university; preferred
political party; automobile company; watching television.
Beyond this school grades, the results of an intelligence test, and the frequency of absence at school were recorded.
Sociometric data: number of choices given and received at both times of investigation; reference group system of the schoolchildren and mechanisms of conveying status.
The schoolchildren were interviewed again about 6 months after the first survey (autumn) with a comparable questionnaire.
The mail survey of parents was conducted by means of a comparable questionnaire. Among other things they were asked: level of eductional aspiration; attitude to school; school situation of children;
memberships; social contacts.
