Abstract
Statistics Norway has five times completed youth surveys commissioned by the Directorate of Labour and the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development. The surveys were conducted in 1975, 1980, 1981, 1985 and 1990. In addition, a follow-up study of a subsample of the 1975 respondents was conducted.
The surveys will provide information on the main aspects related to youth education and labour market experiences of the labour market and the education system and in particular the transition from one to the other. The last topic was more pronounced during the 1980's. There is special emphasis on identifying the situation of the young people who neither went to school nor were working. A main objective was to study to what extent the measures implemented by the employment offices across the country benefitted these groups of young people.
While in the first two surveys in 1975 and 1980, just as the youth up to age 19, this was in 1985 extended to 24 years. The last youth survey of this type was conducted in 1990.
