Abstract

This data consists of two parts: (1) secondary data materials (interviews with media) for hubristic and (2) non-hubristic CEOs. All the data has been retrieved online as is publicly available. There are 6 CEOs in hubristic sample and 5 CEOs in the non-hubristic sample. The amount of data per CEO range on average 3000-5000 words.

Data collection mode

Spoken utterances (secondary data) for the last full year of being a CEO from at least two different sources (retrieved online from publicly accessible websites) have been used for the analysis. The last full year of being a CEO has been chosen as being the most ‘hubristic’ year as according to the research on Hubris Syndrome, it tends to develop over time with the acquisition of significant power and abates once power is lost (Owen & Davidson, 2009; Owen, 2016).
