The main purpose of this survey was to provide information on the link between higher education and employment.

All those who graduated (first degree) in a twelve month period about 1970 from all universities and polytechnics in Great Britain, excluding overseas students and those studying medicine, dentistry or veterinary sciences

all CNAA and external graduates from polytechnics were included in the sample, along with a simple random sample of one in five university graduates.
