Abstract
The German Internet Panel (GIP) is an infrastructure project. The GIP serves to collect data about individual attitudes and preferences which are relevant for political and economic decision-making processes.
Experimental variations in the instruments were used.
Topics: Satisfaction scale for selected areas of life (family life, leisure time, financial situation and work); social activity: active or passive membership in selected associations and organisations (sports, music or cultural association, human rights, environment or animal welfare association, charity or aid organisation, religious or church organisation, youth, parents´ or senior citizens´ association, citizens´ initiative, professional association, trade union, political party); voting behaviour in the last Bundestag election; party preference (Sunday question); Split A: self-assessment left-right; left-right-assessment of the parties CDU, CSU, SPD, FDP, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, Die Linke, NPD and Piratenpartei (Split B with swapped order of questions); party affiliation and party identification; psychological self-characterisation (Big 5: reserved, trusting, lazy, relaxed, little creative interest, sociable, inclination to criticize others, thorough, nervous, active imagination); financial situation: personal net income; number of people contributing to household income; household net income.
Demography: sex; citizenship; year of birth (categorised); highest school leaving certificate; highest professional qualification; place of birth in Germany, other European countries or outside Europe; federal state (respondents born in Germany); marital status; household size; current or former gainful employment; current or former professional position; private Internet use.
Additionally coded was: interview date; questionnaire evaluation; overall assessment of the survey.
