Abstract

This dataset includes data from "Variations in Working Conditions, 1982". The data was collected as part of the international comparative project "Class Structure and Class Consciousness in Advanced Capitalist Societies", initiated by Erik Olin Wright. The purpose of the study was to map out different sides of the working conditions in Norway, focusing particularly on class structure, class consciousness and variations in the labour market. The themes that are dealt with are amongst others: employment and unemployment, working conditions, degree of independence at work, responsibility at work, work affiliation, wage, education, attitudes towards social conditions, class belonging and political activity. Tom Colbjørnsen, Institute of Sociology, University of Bergen, was the principal investigator of the study. The data was collected by Norwegian Marketing Data AS, and financed by the Research Council of Norway and the Council og Research and Social Planning.
