The aim of this survey was to examine the education, training, and careers of a sample of professional engineers.

All members of professional engineering institutions associated with the Council of Engineering Institutions in the following types of grades: graes whose members will become Chartered Engineers after more training experience; Technician Engineer grades. 2. All members of 14 other institutions in grades for which the normal qualification is HNC/D or above. Members whose name and address were both foreign were excluded
