The purpose of this study was to obtain data and information about accommodation available to tourists in Morecambe in premises providing meals, to study the workforce operating this accommodation, to discover sources of trade information and food supplies, and to investigate the future plans of the owners/managers of the accommodation.

Length of time respondent has run premises, length of time respondent has been in hotel and catering trade, previous occupations.
Workforce working all year round: number of males/females working full/part time, whether local residents. Seasonal workers: number of males/females working full/part time, whether local residents. Difficulty in attracting workers.
Courses respondent has taken in hotel and catering trade, source of information about trade, where advertisements for accommodation placed (most successful method of advertising), whether trade magazines and/or papers taken, membership of trade associations.
Total capacity for visitors, times of year accommodation provided, peak times, minimum and maximum charges for flats, number of people who can be accommodated in each flat (arrangements when premises are full), type of long term winter residents. Opinion of package deal holidays.
Extensions, improvements and/or alterations planned, assessment of efficacy of Morecambe Corporation.
Number of single bedrooms, number of rooms with private baths or shower, number of public bathrooms, type of board offered, minimum nightly tariffs, annual turnover. Number of workers receiving training. Where supplies of certain named products were bought, i.e. product, name of supplier, town, amount, method of payment.
Background Variables
