Sampling procedure

243 students at universities and technical colleges were interviewed in London and 48 in Leeds. The interviews in Leeds were made by arrangement with the student affairs officer at the American Embassy, London. Quotas were set for nationality, using the most recent available figures for foreign students in Britain from the British Council.
