Abstract

Diverse housing models for the elderly have been implemented throughout the world. In Slovenia there are also some examples of local best practice in providing services for the elderly. However, caution is necessary in transferring and implementing these innovations because they might not prove successful in other environments and among all age groups. The aim of the research (INFORMES - acronym of the English title of the project: Innovative Forms of Living Environments for Elderly People in Slovenia) was to define which alternative forms of housing and which services for the elderly suit their needs, desires, and habits in Slovenia. The hypothesis was that in Slovenia these differ by the environment the elderly live in (urban vs. rural), different age groups, type of housing unit they live in (house vs. apartment), and so on. The data for the analysis in the research were obtained through a survey. Similar research with title Housing needs of retired people and other elderly people was carried out in 2002 by Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia and Faculty of Social Sciences. . The version of data file published in 2017 contained weight by region, while in the version of data file published in 2019 a weight by gender for two age groups was added.
