Abstract
The academic field of conflict prevention still does not have adequate answers about what kind of approach should be adopted by international organizations in conflict settings for the effective prevention of armed conflicts (what strategies, means and policies should be applied in these regards) and further, how is this 'conflict preventive role' of international organizations perceived by the local citizens. The research partly fills those gaps; it focuses on the role of four international organizations (UN, OSCE, EU, NATO) active in Kosovo between 1999 and 2008 in their attempts to prevent conflict. The research methodology is based on combining qualitative and quantitative approaches/analyses: analysis of primary and secondary sources, historical analysis, field survey and interviewing. 123 surveys and 33 semi-structured interviews were conducted. ADP distributes only survey data.
