The OECD Product Market Regulation Statistics database provides a comprehensive and unique set of internationally comparable indicators measuring the degree to which policies promote or inhibit competition in areas of the product market where competition is viable. Although consistent across time and countries, users of the data must be aware that they may no longer fully reflect the current situation in fast reforming countries. It comprises four datasets; i) Economy-wide regulation, ii) Sectoral Regulation - Professional services, iii) Sectoral Regulation - Energy, transport and communications and iv) Sectoral Regulation - Retail trade.
These datasets measures the economy-wide regulatory and market environments in 30+ OECD countries in (or around) 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013, and in another 20+ non-OECD countries in 2013. The indicators cover formal regulations in the following areas: state control of business enterprises; legal and administrative barriers to entrepreneurship; barriers to international trade and investment.
These data were first provided by the UK Data Service in Sept 2015.
