Economic migration of Slovenian workers abroad (mainly Germany) was a widespread phenomenon at the end of the 1960s and in the 1970s. Sociologists set out to investigate this with an extensive study, the plan and preparations of which date back to 1972, and the field phases were carried out in 1974 and 1976. The first field research called Zdomci took place between June and October 1974. This study is part of a research project concerning migration of Slovene workers to Federal Republic Germany, consisting of three parts: a present study of Slovene economic Emigrants to Germany in 1974, a study in 1976 of their counterpart control group of Pairs staying in Slovenia and a study of Remigrants, who came back to Slovenia after work in Germany. Respondents are Slovene workers who live and/or work in Germany.
