Abstract

The aim of this project was to investigate how business model innovation can contribute to inclusion of smallholder farmers and institutional change in the agricultural sector in Tanzania. The project followed Yara International ASA in their efforts to develop a smallholder centric business model in Tanzania. Understanding institutional costs and barriers and the public-private interdependencies was important in this regard. The project employed three conceptual frameworks; public-private collaboration, business model innovation and value chain initiatives. The data for this project constitutes of qualitative cases studies from the agricultural sector in Tanzania.
