Study title

The interviews were part of an Arab-West Report project for a book on Islamist movements during the year 2013. Transcripts of recorded interviews were placed online in one dataset in June 2016. In all cases the agreement for publication of the transcripts was requested. Several interviewees gave their consent but many others did not provide a response, i.e. no objection was received / requests were ignored. Edited full transcripts of 24 interviews are made available here, with the exception of one politically sensitive interview in which only a summary is provided (full transcript is available upon request). Additionally, 21 of the audio recordings that accompany the interviews are made available as a part of this dataset ( 4 audio recordings were omitted from this dataset due to politically sensitive content). The interviews were conducted either in English or Arabic. The transcripts have been written in English.

All transcripts and summaries of interviews are prepared in English. Most interviews were conducted in English, though some of them were conducted in Arabic with the assistance of a translator/interpreter.
