Abstract

The study deals with the question which life plans young people at special schools for emotional and social development choose for their future after finishing school. The background is a research situation that generally attests unrealistic personal ideas to adolescents from difficult backgrounds. In particular the life plan includes parameters from the areas of work, family, leisure, finances, and social and political participation. Topics: Current leisure activities; the best thing that happened to the respondent; the worst thing that happened to the respondent; where the respondent would like to live as an adult; with whom the respondent would like to live as an adult; how the respondent would like to live as an adult; having a relationship as an adult; getting married as an adult; would like to have children as an adult; number of children desired in the future; parenting responsibilities; parenting style; wants to buy as an adult; wants to spend leisure time as an adult; wants to take on volunteer work; wants to vote; party membership; wants to work as an adult; wants a job; wants a high school diploma needed for a job; wants to know if current grades are enough; what is important about a job; wants a high school diploma; wants a job in the future. Demographics: State; type of special school; age; gender; degree of urbanization; number of siblings; household members; type of residence; other residence on weekends; attendance at a day group; country of birth; parents‘ country of birth; migration background.

The survey was accomplished by students of special education with a focus on emotional and social development in class. At the beginning, the students were instructed. Due to the high number of students in this course of study, there is a need for the students to apply for an internship throughout Germany. For this purpose, students search for a possible internship school. The chair checks The details of the internship school. the organizational form of the school have to fulfill the criteria of a special school in the field of emotional and social development. This mechanism made it possible for the survey to ensure, on the one hand, that the students were at a school with a special focus of emotional and social development and, on the other hand, to achieve a certain randomness of the sample, which was, influenced by the following parameters: - Willingness of participation by the respondents, parents, school management and school authorities of the federal states. - The selection of an internship by the students (state and location of the internship school) - The willingness of the students to participate in the implementation - Determination of a minimum age of ten years among the respondents
