Abstract

In order to identify how the evolution of society affects Swedes’ attitudes and behaviour, the SOM Institute started its National SOM study in 1986. National SOM addresses three areas - society, opinion and mass media - and consists of several parallel surveys. All surveys include a large number of questions related to politics, society, media and social background, but their areas of focus differ. When the coronavirus hit Sweden during 2020 it became urgent with an extraordinary survey to map what the swedish public opinion looked like during this period. The survey mainly focuses on opinion relating to how the virus was handled, worry for the virus itself and general thoughts regarding it. However, the survey also contains classic questions relating to politics, society, media and habits.
