The universe sampled is composed of 6 groups and individual samples:
1.Multi-stage random sample of the American population (694 respondents
with a response rate of 53%). For this all addresses were used which
had been deliverable in a survey in 1980.
2. Supplement sample of environmentalists: random selection of addresses
from lists of various associations of the environmental protection
movement (272 respondents, response rate 57%).
3. Supplement sample ´leadership persons of the economy´: sample of
presidents or vice-presidents or chairmen of the board of large and
medium-sized companies from the ´Fortune Double 500 Directory´ and from
´Corporations, Directors and Executives´ (202 respondents, response rate
59%).
4. Supplement sample ´political leadership´: random selection of members
of the political leadership at federal, state and municipal level (48
respondents, response rate 21%).
5. Supplement sample ´public administration´: sample drawn analogious
to the sample of ´political leadership´ (115 respondents, response rate
53%).
6. Supplement sample ´trade union leadership´: random selection of
persons from the ´Who´s Who in Labor´ (of 1980) and the ´Encyclopedia
of Associations´ (129 respondents, response rate 45%).
Demography: age; sex; marital status; occupational position;
employment; nationality; union membership; city size; household income;
number of school years (classified); political orientation; party
preference; federal state; self-assessment of social class.
