Abstract

This survey on knowledge about folic acid among women in fertile age, was carried out by Statistics Norway first time during the autumn 1998. Research has shown that intake of folic acid in the beginning of a pregnancy reduces the chance of a baby being born with deformations, like spina bifida. A smiliar survey was carried out in 2000, and both were initiated by the National nutrition and physical education council (before Norwegian National Council on Nutrition) and the Medical Birth Registry of Norway.
