Abstract

This masterthesis aims to investigate the students attitude towards mathematics, and which factors that affect their attitudes. The survey was carried out among all students in 3rd, 5th and 7th grade enrolled at three primary schools in Arendal. The background for the project was development of a positive attitude towards mathematics as a goal in the L-97 curricula. The results show that the students in Arendal, in average, had positive attitudes towards mathematics. Still more negative attitudes are developing through the years, with a significant change between the 3rd and the 5th grade. In addition some significant differences were found in the formation of attitudes.
