Abstract

This project concerns general challenges related to development and implementation of solar energy technologies in developing countries with particular focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. Non-technical issues which can limit the use of new solar energy technologies and their development effects have been the subject of the project. The primary objective is to find out what influences the success or failure of solar energy technologies, in addition to develop guidelines for a successful and sustainable implementation of solar energy technologies for stakeholders in general, and for the project at NTNU. By combining the technical and social aspects of solar energy, the project makes a multidisciplinary effort on challenges related to introduction of new, small scale solar energy systems at the level of households and institutions.
