Abstract

Attitude towards EU competition policy.
Topics: attitude towards selected statements regarding competition between companies: allows for better consumer prices, allows for more choice for consumers, price agreements should be interdicted, companies receiving financial aid from governments are given unfair advantages over their competitors, companies receiving financial aid from governments should be interdicted to compete on European level, mergers between large companies distort competition, consumers and society in the own country benefit from controlling competition at national and at European level, necessity to protect small companies; perception of the aforementioned issues in the media in the last year; most important sectors lacking competition in prices and product choice and reasons for this; desire for more information on selected issues of competition policy. Demography: sex; age; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; type of community. Additionally coded was: interviewer ID; language of the interview; country; date of interview; time of the beginning of the interview; duration of the interview; type of phone line; region; weighting factor.
