Abstract
The researcher analyzes the process of regional industrialization on the example of the Hagen area, using the theoretical model of the industrial district. It was deliberately chosen a small examination room to capture the process of industrialization for all major industries.
The development of the research territory Hagen and the Bergisches-Land area was considerably different from the development of the neighboring regions of the Ruhr area and the Sauerland. Therefore, the researcher raised the question of the significance of the theoretical model about the industrialization process and the division of the states into pioneers and successors.
The enterprises of the private sector as well as of the official sector are the examined units. The author refers in the course of his work on the new institutional economics, by drawing up transaction costs in some places to explain certain behaviors and certain forms of organization. Especially the micro-analytical orientation of the transaction cost economics and the perspectives of the enterprise as a control system are very helpful for the study of individual companies and a region. In addition technical changes, transactioncosts and the production technique which came into use, are included as important factors into the analysis.
The concept of the study is to develop from the respective histories of each company a history of various industries and ultimately to explain the economic history of the studied territory. In this framework other factors, for example infrastructure, economic circles, economic or political history have to be considered. The aim is to find similar patterns of development. The researcher concentrates on another, often overlooked way of industrialization of a traditional enterprise zone. The study is a contribution to the aim to understand the genesis of the industrial age in it’s diversity.
