Men and women aged 25-44 and living alone at the time of interview by the Scottish Household Survey in 2005-2006, who were currently living alone, or who had lived alone for a period of at least six months in the past three years, in selected urban or rural localities across Scotland, 2007-2008.
Sampling procedure
Interviewees for follow-up were selected in relation to themes identified as important in the literature and in the telephone interviews, as having one or more of the following criteria: poor health, financial dis/advantage, sexuality, parental status, social networks (rich/limited).
