Abstract

Survey of COPD patients and their families. The COPD patients got questions about themselves and if he / she receives help from family or others. The COPD relatives have answered questions about the care they provide for the sick and how much time they spend on this and how it affects their own life situation. The survey was sent to COPD patients (1118 patients) who had a stay at Glittreklinikken the last two years before the survey was conducted in December 2009 and January 2010. The COPD patients gave the questionnaire to their next of kin, ie the person helping him / her most. 832 COPD patients answered the survey, which equals a response rate of 73.6%. Nearly 30% (n = 237) responded that they did not receive practical help from family, friends or neighbors. 586 families received the survey and response rates among them was 92%.
