Abstract

The municipalities are required to have a comprehensive understanding of the health status of the population, as well as positive and negative factors that may influence it. The overarching purpose of this project is to gather data that can be used to promote population health, well-being, positive social and environmental conditions, and to prevent mental and physical illness, injury, or suffering. Additionally, this project aims to reduce social health inequalities and protect the population from factors that may have a negative impact on health. The project focuses on two important challenges in preventive work requiring further research. Firstly, the increasing number of young people affected by overweight and obesity. Secondly, the significant proportion of Norwegian youth who do not complete secondary education, which increases their susceptibility to health issues in adulthood. The project's main objective was to investigate self-reported health and quality of life, as well as factors that may influence these outcomes. A collaborative project between Sogn og Fjordane County Council(now part of Vestland County Council), host municipalities for secondary schools in Sogn og Fjordane, Sogn og Fjordane University College (now part of Western Norway University of Applied Sciences ), Helse Førde, and the University of Bergen.
