Abstract

Vacation and travel habits of the West German population in 1986 as well as vacation plans for the next season. The main focus of this travel analysis is the topic of factors influencing tourist habits. The content of the study is largely comparable with the other travel analyses. Topics: vacation frequency in the last three years; destination areas; remaining at place of vacation or tour; same destination each year; type of vacation; psychological demands on a vacation; travel month; duration of vacation; satisfaction with last trip; vacation satisfaction; perceived forms of vacation and destination preferences; characteristics of popular forms of travel; importance of selected criteria for judgement on vacation; judgement on the last destination; judgement on preparation and course of the last vacation as well as the trip there and back; time of travel decision; sources of information and travel agency; place of booking and services booked; form of organization of trip and means of transport used; type and judgement on lodging as well as meals on vacation; meal services booked before start of trip; travel companion; total expenditures for vacation travel; personal activities and athletic activities at place of vacation; information on second or third vacation trips; preference up to now and future interest in various forms of vacation; preferred vacation region at home and abroad; frequency and type of short vacation trips; assessment of development of financial situation of household; judgement on selected aspects of vacation travel and fears as well as difficulties before the last trip (interviewed in writing); attitude to vacation trips; interest in a vacation trip in 1987; personal understanding of relaxation; type of difficulties adjusting on the last trip and desired improvements at place of vacation; influence on planing and conducting of one´s own vacation travel; quality demands; leisure orientation; striving for sociability.
