Abstract

Using the training place barometer, the SBFI determined the situation on the training place market twice a year from 1997 to 2017 via surveys of companies and young people prior to the choice of training. For the period 2018 to 2026, the research institute gfs.bern was entrusted with the task. The aim of the seam barometer is to record educational decisions made by young people at the end of their compulsory schooling and to assess the situation on the Swiss apprenticeship market. To this end, an annual online survey is conducted in two survey waves among young people aged 14-16 and companies with at least 2 employees in three languages. The first survey in April (deadline 15 April) provides first indications of the educational choices of young people after compulsory schooling and of the situation on the apprenticeship market, and also shows trends for the development up to the summer. The second survey in August (deadline 31 August) provides final results and an outlook for the coming year. The tasks of the research institute gfs.bern are to design and prepare the surveys in coordination with the SBFI, to carry out the fieldwork, to evaluate the data and to analyse the results.
