Abstract
The research focuses on national and cultural identity, self-definition, transculturality and cultural hybridity of Slovenian border residents (mainly in relation to Italianness) and media consumption in a historical perspective. The aim of the research was to find out what role did the Italian media content play in shaping the cultural identity of the inhabitants of Slovenian Istria. As part of the doctoral survey (supported by the Slovenian Research Agency), a (1) quantitative survey (telephone based survey in 2014) and a (2) qualitative survey (interviews in 2015) were conducted among residents of four Istrian municipalities (i.e. border areas): Koper, Izola, Piran and Ankaran. The research focuses on national and cultural identity, self-definition, transculturality and cultural hybridity of Slovenian border residents (mainly in relation to Italianness) and media consumption in a historical perspective.
