ISSP prepares and coordinates annual surveys in their member countries. The topics for research are repeated at intervals of a few years. The "National Identity" survey was conducted for the first time in 1995, and partially replicated in 2003. NSD conducted the survey for the first time in Norway in 1995. The objective of the surveys is to create an empirical foundation for studying attitudes, views and behaviors in questions concerning national identity and the nation-state.
