Abstract

On the occasion of the metal workers´ strike in Baden-Wuerttemberg a quickly planned study was conducted on the immediate reactions of the population to the wage conflict and basic attitudes to trade unions and the right to strike. Topics: Interest in politics; attitudes to strikes, trade union and lock-out; knowledge of demands of the workers and offers of the employer side; assumed sympathy of the population for the one side or the other; assumed reason for price increases; judgement on the opportunities to earn of workers; membership in a trade union. Also encoded was: date of interview. Demography: age(classified);sex; marital status; religious denomination; school education; occupation; employment; head of household; state. Interviewer rating: city size.
