Labour Force Surveys
The Labour Force Surveys are conducted quarterly, and the statistical data goes back to 1972. The objective of the LFS is to provide information on developments in employment and unemployment, and in different population groups in connection with the labor market. The Labour Force Survey will provide the basis and statistical material for occupational forecasting and labor market research. The Labour Force Survey has evolved to become the main source of knowledge about the state of the labor market.

In 1996, the LFS questionnaire, file description, and standard coding of industry and occupation was significaly revised. Data collection eventually went over to CATI - Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing. The present file has incorporated these changes. New industrial classification in this file. (NOS C 182, based on EU standard NACE, Rev.1) New Classification of Occupations (STRYK) based on ISCO 88 is adopted from 1996, in these data the occupation are coded for new standard.
From 1996 the rotation schedule changed, so every family now is attending eight consecutive quarters. From 1996, also the sampling plan changed, making stratification at the county level.
