Abstract
Main focus of this Eurobarometer are environmental consciousness,
attitudes to biotechnology and gene-technology as well as consumer
behavior in the Common Market. Topics: Eligibility to vote at place of
residence; personal opinion leadership and frequency of political
discussions; postmaterialism; frequency of obtaining news from
television, radio and newspapers; actual and desired speed of
unification for the EC; importance of environmentally conscious conduct
and thrifty or efficient use of energy (scale); importance of energy
conservation and clean air in the cities; knowledge as well as
assessment of the seriousness of the problems from the greenhouse
effect, acid rain and destruction of the ozone layer; classification of
causes for these environmental problems; actual personal contribution
to energy conservation and perceived opportunities for further energy
conservation; judgement on the efficiency of energy conservation of
public institutions at local, regional, national, European and
world-wide level; preference for direction decisions on energy
investment by the market or government; judgement on energy sources
regarding their future price stability, security of supply and their
environmental risk; attitude to future development of nuclear energy;
attitude to an increase in energy taxes; attitude to reduced taxation
of environmentally friendly packaging and increased taxes for
environmentally unfriendly packaging; sources of information about the
risks of radioactivity; satisfaction with information about
radioactivity as well as reasons for dissatisfaction; assessment of
trustworthiness of information providers such as scientists,
universities, government offices or environmental associations
regarding radioactivity; most important criteria for trustworthiness;
perceived risks of nuclear energy (scale); attitude to prevention of
