Information on the Proceedings - start of investigations / reporting behavior in the population, - questioning of the accused, - questioning of witnesses in the entire proceedings and in the main hearing, - protective custody and detention awaiting trial, - prosecution (time of incident, accusation and the like), - reports before and in the main hearing, - defense before and in the main hearing, - main hearing (duration, closing arguments etc.), - enforcement and pardon procedure. 2. Information about the accused person - family situation and social position, - citizenship or nationality, - member of the military and participation in the war (for Germans found guilty), - belonging to parties and other political organizations. 3. Sentence data, obtained from a separate analysis of the sentences by a sample procedure. - sanctions - facts of the case - length of sentence - date of sentence

Sampling procedure

The courts’ main files / general files are the universe for the sampling procedure. For each proceeding a sample was taken respectively from the entirety of the main files. The survey was carried out by trained assistants who had to be lawyers. It was conducted with a data entry form recording first information on the proceedings and then information about the individual accused.
