Abstract

The dataset was collected via a survey designed to audit the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Services (WASH) and management issues across all primary and secondary schools in Kitui County, Kenya. A team of 26 local, trained enumerators administered the survey in a total of 1,887 schools. A few schools in Kitui East sub-county could not be reached due to insecurity while a small number of secondary schools refused to participate in the survey. The respondent chosen was the head teacher and, if unavailable, the deputy head and then a senior teacher. The majority of respondents were head or deputy teachers (>88%) with over three in five respondents male.
